June 7th Meeting Recap

The unified board held its first June meeting in the Essex High School cafeteria on June 7th, 2016.  Draft minutes are posted here.  A recap of some highlights:

-The board heard updates on task team work, particularly the timeline for review of essential policies.  The superintendents also made their regular reports on transition progress.  Mark Andrews spoke about the ongoing collaborative efforts among district leadership to identify common purpose to inform strategic planning.

-Four members of the Recreation Governance Study Committee were present at the meeting as the board discussed a resolution of continued intent to support the great work of the recreation departments in our communities through facilities access, etc.  A Memorandum of Understanding or Letter of Intent will make more sense once there is a new Rec municipal entity with which to make official agreements, but the board made clear an overall spirit of support and cooperation.

-At the end of the meeting, discussion turned to the superintendent search process.  The board supported the recommendation of the Superintendent Search Task Team that an open search be conducted, with internal candidates invited to apply.  A number of proposals are under consideration from consultants and organizations that facilitate this type of hiring process.
