The unified board held its fifth meeting in the Essex High School library on May 3rd, 2016. You can find the minutes here. Here is a summary of some key points from the meeting:
-The board formally adopted the Guiding Principles for Decision Making that were reviewed and edited at the last meeting. These Principles are a series of five questions board members will use to evaluate the recommendations brought by the administration. In addition, they will inform decisions the board has to make. You may read the Guiding Principles here.
-The board worked on fleshing out the work plan for the task teams. Among other things, the timeline for the Superintendent hiring process was considered.
-Sue McCormack of Everyday Democracy spoke to the board about the work her group is doing to facilitate EWSD and current district engagement efforts in conjunction with the Nellie Mae grant. A series of dialogues has already occurred with students and teachers in the schools. Future steps will include larger community engagement activities.
