The EWSD unified board held another meeting in the Essex High School library on April 26th, 2016. The draft minutes are available. Here is a brief recap of some meeting highlights:
-The board had the opportunity to meet Dan French, Project Manager for the transition. He spoke about his background as an educational leader in Vermont, most recently as Superintendent of the Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union. He also shared his thoughts on his role assisting our community’s transition to a unified district, and spoke to the ongoing conversation the board has been having about governance models.
-Mark Andrews and Judy DeNova, Superintendents of the Essex Town School District (ETSD) and Chittenden Central Supervisory Union (CCSU) respectively, updated the board on transition work plan progress. Andrews’ work continues to center on convening curricular leaders across district boundaries. DeNova’s financial update included progress on the Chief Financial Officer hiring process, goals around harmonizing financial information systems across districts, and the good news that the transition funds from the state Agency of Education have been approved and the Nellie Mae grant funds for 2016 have been deposited to the new board’s account.
-The board approved a set of guiding principles for decision making, essentially a rubric by which we will evaluate whether administration proposals preserve and enhance opportunities for students and other members of the school community at a reasonable cost to taxpayers. The guiding principles should be available on this website soon!
